Childcare

In the Home Economics Department, we offer a range of Occupational Studies.

Child Care is one Occupational Studies offered to students during Year 11 or 12. Child Care is offered through the Business and Services pathway.

Unit 1: Childcare the Play Environment- in this unit students get the opportunity to develop their creativity through a range of practical activities including:

-Making a game suitable for children aged 3-5.

-Creating a book corner suitable for young children.

-Creating a nursery rhyme model to help children’s understanding of numbers and words through song.

Unit 13: Physical Care of Babies- in this unit students get the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of looking after babies through a range of practical activities including:

-Making a baby’s bottle safely

-Bathing a baby

-Putting a baby to bed safely

Both units are portfolio based and students thoroughly enjoy this course.

Students can obtain grades up to and equivalent to A* at GCSE.
